How the scrambler works

No sign-up, no membership, no bracket spreadsheet. Here's exactly what happens when you hit the scramble button.

1. You set the scene

Tell it how many courts you have and add everyone's name. The court stepper shows your total playing spots (4 per court for doubles), so you can see at a glance whether anyone will be waiting.

2. Doubles courts fill first

Every full group of 4 gets a court: two teams of two, dealt randomly. The scrambler tries dozens of arrangements behind the scenes and keeps the one with the fewest repeated partnerships โ€” so you're not stuck with the same partner three rounds in a row.

3. Leftover players get a singles court

If there's an open court and at least two players left over, two of them get a singles matchup instead of sitting. You can turn this off if your group prefers doubles-only. With no spare court, extras rotate to the bench.

4. Sit-outs rotate fairly

The app tracks how many times each person has sat out during your session. Whoever has sat the least sits next, with ties broken randomly. Everyone's sit count shows right on their name tag, so there's no arguing at open play โ€” the bench math is public.

5. Scramble again for the next round

One tap deals the next round with fresh matchups, fresh partners, and the next people in the sit-out rotation. When your session's over, hit reset to clear the round counter and sit-out history for next time.
